Rio Grande was the winner of his stallion performance test achieving very high scores in both the riding and jumping phase of the test.
He was an international show jumper, representing Team Canada on several occasions. Rio was part of Team Canada that won the 1996 Nations Cup at the Meadowlands in NJ and the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. He qualified to represent Team Canada at the 1996 Olympics.
In 2005, Rio Grande was the leading living sire of hunters as per USEF ranking.
Rio Grande's own versatility, athleticism and outstanding temperament are mirrored in his offspring's multifaceted success.
Most notably, Rio Grande is the sire of many of the top Hunters currently competing in the US, such as Rio Renoir, Eye Remember Rio, Rave, Rio's Splash, Rio Bravo, and 2002 AHSA Horse of the Year Rio Bronco. The outstanding results of Rio Grande offspring in the hunter ring have put Rio in the top 8 of the USEF ranking for hunter sires for each of the past six years. At the 2010 Pennsylvania National Horse Show, Eye Remember Rio and his legally blind rider were the winner of the NAL Adult Hunter Finals and Rio Renoir was Amateur Owner Grand Champion.
Several of Rio's offspring have been competing very successfully at the Open level of Show Jumping. Rio's Rhapsody has won major Grand Prix competitions in Florida and Canada. Catwalk was the winner of two World Cup Qualifiers.
Rio Grande is one of the few stallions who truly puts a stamp on his offspring. He is known to pass on his good looks, extraordinary athletic abilities and wonderful disposition.
Excellent quality frozen semen is stored in Canada and the US.
